By admin | Tue, 03/11/2025 - 08:12

Please read this and ensure all pilots adhere to the instructions.

As per info supplied by Johnboy.

The info above is self explanatory. Please do the right thing and abide by the instructions set out. We have a meeting with this gentlemen next week regarding the lowering of the bushes out the front of Dixon Park launch. It is imperative that we do not jeopardise this relationship. Thanks in advance.

Meeting Commenced. 6:45

apologies: Shane Duncan, joel

Present: Patto, Kenny, Jamie, Cameron, tony, Adriaan, Courtney, Gary

Last minutes: concur with minutes

Adriaan: everyone needs to resubscribe. Minutes available.

Business arising from last minutes: Gary and Ward been working on stuff

Johnboy: mentioned Dickson park works, and how fucked it all is. Courtney: talking stuff about being at another club and being ripped off by contractors.

Gary: guy from council called him back at Chrissy and said he was still working on it whatever that means.

safety issues: Ryan up high, going awesome. Hayden about ready to launch, wind was dropping off. Launched when light. Tony told him, many times. Instead Hayden turned back and tony thought "fuck". He turned and was still not going up, he then turned back and was just going down. He hit the rocks in prone, and his arm just went "pop". Gary giving sage advice on staying away from uprights when crashing in order to not break or dislocate arm. Tony and Gary advice that if you turn left and not going up then just keep going.

Site Report: Does anyone know when Dicko's going to be shut? no one really does. Harry reckons some time in March but Courtney reckons something else. Harry has an impression about what council wants to do, and is expanding on what he reckons. Gary also talking about over-the top response from council. Patto reckons launch will be where crane set up. Harry worried about Nob where people launch from being damaged by crane. Gary reckons tunnel should be set up so we launch over people walking past.

Tony reckons Dudley needs a trim. Patto said thick trees cut down last time, just cut a bit off the top. Camo, reckons some vegetation making thing worse. Rod calls for bushfire, even though he would never light one, just hopes that it happens. Gary, too bad when doing works they just dont accidentally set fire to it. Gary, give excavator guy a carton to run over bushes back and forth. Gary talking to Tinks. Tinks want working bee up at State Titles. Gary - not likely. Gary, just before state titles, have working bee up at Manilla. Contact other guys and see if they can help out.

Gary - no other sites ?

Competition report. Ward won corryong, Rory won outright, but Ward was heaps better though he finished 18th or 19th. Which was awesome cause everyone above him was a good pilot. Hayden, who broke his arm at Dudley came second. 3 really good days, 4 days flying. Ryan flew really well. Ryan awesome week. Went down valley a bit. Kieran: Go up creek a bit, good spot to have a wank. 6 paid regos for Manila. Never been a problem with people not going. Rod donating $2000 to floater and kingpost class. Everyone thanks Rod, who is awesome and apparently has a huge penis, as he once worked as a male stripper.

Gary putting pressure on Camo to go to Manilla. Adriaan, go up to Manila, if you dont you ARE A PUSSY.

Gary, expanding upon how awesome Rod is.

New Business: Gary, Jamie WTF is happening with weather stations? Jamie, saying stuff, something about a bracket and destroying pole. Patto is going to make paragliders pay for weather station. Ian waiting for a bracket. Patto: Ian wants re-imbursement, paragliders don't have any money. They have to pay for too much shit. Though they have 92 members. Gary, we don't make any money ourselves. Rod, they should have sponsors. Rod, has heaps of rich mates in Sydney that he will try to convince to sponsor.

Courtney, at surf club, you have to create your own story, some guy rode 600 kms. cant make that much sense of what he is saying. I think I get it, he is talking about media coverage. Do some kind of charity shit to get attention. Rod, been talking to lady tony knows, careful tony, he has been talkin g to her for 6 months and has big dick. Rod going to get taken up to 20 ft in balloon to get media coverage. Patto did world record out of balloon by parachuting out of it. Rod, all you need is a balloon, problem with being dropped out of balloon in a glider. Reckons someone should get carried up in balloon and dropped out for attention. Patto, going through detail of what its like being dropped out of a balloon. Rod, 20,000 ft to be dropped out of a balloon, which is awesome.

Gary, Cameron ? Cameron, I've done some marketing. opening insta page. Passing around to everyone. Learning to fly video made by camo. Account had 1.1M views. Last video made 834,000 views. 12,000 likes. Fair few people downloaded Worldwide. Cameron, discussing plan to bring people in locally. Rod, what are the ages of people looking at video? Cameron, looking up stats confusing them with his only fans page. Courtney, merit in getting people up.

1.    Kate from Nation Parks organising a new sign.  Suggestions to include on sign; a) request general public to respect active pilots conducting take-off and landing operations, b) Take-off and landing zones on sign.  JOD and John Spencer to follow up with Kate.
2.    First Aid Course (Allan McMillan).  Costings & Subsidies.
3.    Parachute chuck night.  Ward Gunn keen to organise.  Contact Rory to see if OK to use Airborne shed.
4.    Safety Officer Course
5.    Comps – See if local members are willing to step up and help run before engaging other clubs to take on.  Karl says Gulgong pretty much done and Billo won’t let it fall in a heap.  Corryong and Manilla need help.  Allan McMillan suggested a committee from various clubs.
6.    Hunter launch short landing paddock back in action.  Emergency only if can’t make designated paddock.  Owners request cars not be left there.  Cars parked for pickup only.  Words on Style to be painted so this message clearly communicated.
7.    Jason is going to have a look at sites in the Hunter to see which ones are in need of maintenance.
8.    Karl got club gear that needs an new home.  This primarily includes a quad bike, boxes of t-shirts, and a printer.
9.    Newly received club De-Fibulator.  Club to organise lessons, possibly part of first aid course.  Also need to decide where it is going to live.

NHGC Meeting Minutes 28 August 2019.
12 Present, John & Karl seconded minutes published on web site.  Apologies JOD, John Spencer.
Troy Horton, Ben Levic, Billo, John Harriott, Ward Gunn, Jason Mackenzie
Kyle, Royce and Gary Herman paid $15 cash each to Jamie for membership.
Please be aware the water fountain near the Dixon Park been moved nearer to landing area.
Ken Harris is out of hospital.  James has debriefed him.
Update from Karl Kindle - one of the two new sites in the Watagans has been approved.  That being NW Heaton.  The arborist is scheduled to be up there Tuesday / Wednesday next week to start removing trees from this site as well as SE Heaton and Hunter.
1.    It was agreed a letter be written to Kate at National Parks to communicate our gratitude for all the works performed at Merewether/Hickson st launch.  The letter is to include historic financial contributions by NHGC for past works so it be on the public record.  Harry Daniels has graciously volunteered to write this letter.  Assistance from JOD and John Spencer for historical facts will be appreciated.
2.    Clarification requested for what NHGC pays for permits for its sites Merewether/Hickson St launch, Watagans ($1350?), Catherine Hill Bay.  Request by Adriaan?  From John Spencer / Karl Kindle?  This was brought up because Newcastle Paragliding Club is offering a contribution to Merewether/Hickson st Launch and we were assessing if our club should also make a token offer with written letter to Kate at National Parks.
3.    No club members were willing to take on running the comps.  Adriaan contacted other clubs and they also did not wish to run any of the comps.  Karl Kindle has kindly offered to continue his role running the comps and was voted in as our official ‘Competitions Administrator’.  Seconded Harry Daniel.
4.    Ian Ladyman requested clarification as to where the path would go at Merewether launch.
5.    The club to vote on spending money for a Christmas party next meeting.
6.    The Club to vote on purchase of promotional camera, ±$600.00 Objections were offered along the line of is there a better way to spend the money, presidents comment you have to put out to get out and unless you can come up with a better idea how about supporting the effort of growing our sport through promotion, how about supporting this!!
7.    To streamline the meeting so pilots stick around to talk about flying and socialise, “New Business” ideas etc is to be put on the club web site 2 weeks prior to the meeting.

Apologies: Adriaan Mulder, Donney Gardner, Matt Olive, George Bushara, Karl Kindle, Adam Donaldson

Attending: Ian Ladyman, Alan McMilllan, John Spencer, John Dingle, Kyle, Prudence, Harry, Tony, Ben, Rory, Jamie

Previous Minutes – seconded Tony

No New Business.

Safety Issues;
None reported.  Tony would like to look at rating changes at our local sites (more restrictive to novices) and form a committee.  John Spencer counteracted this idea with advanced pilots need to be more nurturing of our novice pilots and that we should maintain some flexibility on a case by case basis where a novice is being supervised by a local advanced pilot.  He also warned that just relying on site rating opens the doors for incidents with advanced pilots who do not have local knowledge/skills.

Site Report:
No news on progress in Watagans or condition of Watagan sites by Jason Mckenzie.
Ian Ladyman has reported the padlock at Bombala st Launch has been replaced with a ‘loopy bolt’.

Items following on from previous month’s meeting;
1.     Letter to Kate at National Parks.  John Spencer had no knowledge of request for past history.  Harry has requested a sub committee.  Suggestion to approach additional people such as Royce & NSWHPA, John Harriot, Mollo and Chris McDonald.
2.    Christmas Party – did not vote on this item.  There was too many alternative ideas to spending 1-2$k.  Main concerns were to commit that money and not have a turnout of people.  Alternative ideas included members wishing to go pay up front for the evening and the club later reimburse them.  This way a budget can be pre-defined based on those who wish to attend.  Ideas to be submitted to club website prior to next meeting.  If you do not wish to go online, SMS Adrian and he will post on your behalf.
3.    Voting on Purchase of 360 camera to make a club promotional video – zero votes for, 11 against.  Main concerns were
a.    how the camera would be managed amongst members,
b.    still need to find a person to do video editing, paid or unpaid,
c.    there is a lot of footage already existing that members could submit to be used.
The idea of paying someone ~$1000 to perform the editing was more popular.  We suggested voting on this idea instead at the next meeting.  Alternative ideas should be posted on the club website or SMS Adrian and he will post on your behalf.

Treasurers Report

NHGC Minutes
October 30th 2019, Bar Beach Bowlo
Apologies: Adrian, Royce, Lorry
Attending: Prudence, Kyle, Rory, Ben, Jamie, Karl, Craig, John Dingle, Billo, JOD, Harry, Selmsy, Ken Harris, New member (Student Pilot) Michael (?).
Last Minutes: Seconded Craig & Karl
Treasurers Report: $23,446
Safety Issues: None
Site Report:  Karl – Watagans Stage 1 Hunter & SE Heaton trees removed.  Stage 2 new launch at West Heaton still awaiting for Aboriginal assessment.  New launch at NE Heaton not dead yet, re-applying with reduced footprint.  Weather station on Telstra tower application still being assessed.  Ken Farmer paid for cutting trees by club using money for both stages.  Got to chase money pledged by PG club.  Money from HPA done.  NHGC have paid their contribution.  Sports funding needed for next round of clearing.
Last Months business:  Xmas Party options ;
1.    Ocean St
2.    Softys – Unanimous vote winner.
Agreed to have on Friday 13th December with $750 budget.  Prudence volunteered to draw up a flyer.  Invite PG club.  Make event appealing to members spouses/partners.
New Business:
1.    West Bombout at Mt Borah officially lost due to new owner putting in strip farming.  Godfrey has permission to clear a small area on the side of the hill but unfortunately this will be too small for hang-gliders to land.  Without a west bombout the NSW state titles cannot be held at Mt Borah.
2.    New ideas requested for a new hill to host NSW state titles comp.  Potentially become a towing comp.  Some resistance to becoming a towing comp because it is not as inclusive to pilots of all skill levels (ie you must have your towing endorsement).
3.    Agreed to cancel to comp and re-imberse money.
4.    Popular suggestion is to temporarily host the competition at Bright/Mt Beuty (ie same launches as the ‘Bogong Cup’).  Karl to investigate and contact Ole/Pat (local pilots) and talk to HPA.  This will disadvantage Queensland pilots with extra travel distance but at such short notice no better alternatives.

Comps update:
CWC Gulgong – 16 pilots enlisted.
Corryong – 10 pilots enlisted.
Meeting close.

Gulgong comp complete. 18 pilots attended. Only 2 taskable days – lots of smoke and high     winds. Comp made $39.
Karl looking at alternative venue for CWC next year.
Karl to check out situation at Manilla for state titles.
Safety Issues:
Rob Larkin tumbled while towing at Gulgong. Possibly due to have stroke while on tow. Had     uncontrolled descent and spun into ground. Multiple injuries sustained. Currently in         Westmead ICU. For repair of jaw injuries this week. Drs aiming to take him off sedation later     this week. Adriaan has organised a card for Rob’s family.
