Have been watching the whales head north from Strezzie TO over the last week or two but they have been a fair way off shore.

With the westerlery winds and sunny days we decided to spend a couple of days up the Bay and went out on a whale watch cruise - well I got seniors discount :-) - out past Cabbage Tree island. The young guy driving the boat new his stuff and got us close enough to about 10 humpback whales. The cheap Lumix camera made it hard to catch the action with shutter lag but eventually I got one out of the water.

Today on the pushie around Nobbies saw three groups of pelicans converge into one thermal and follow it out over the beach. Ended up being about 100 in the group.

When they topped out they made a formation for efficient gliding and headed south at good speed. Couldn't get them all in frame with the phone camera.

Impressive eh
